The Carers Poverty Alliance is proud to offer full free membership via it's official website, http://carerspovertyalliance.com
This page sets up the benefits of joining us and what we expect from you as a member. We want our membership to be as open as possible and because of this really do not want to bog everyone down with strict usage rules. However, as with all online communities, there are a few guidelines which need to be followed.
Frequently Asked Question: I am a member of the facebook group, am I not already a member of the CPA?
The original plan for the Carers Poverty Alliance facebook group was to allow us to promote CPA activities and provide any information as we get it. At the beginning people wanted to join but our old website had no membership system, so we opted to use facebook until a better solution was found.
Your membership of the facebook group still counts, but the facebook group will act as an informational group rather than a discussional group. Members on our website can comment on content and start their own topics on the main website.
Registration Help
For assistance registering on our website, please click Website Login and Registration Help in the footer of every page on this site.
Members Discussion (also generally applies to our facebook group)
Try and post in the correct discussion area and remain on on topic wherever possible. Moderators will end topics when the original thread is no longer being discussed.
Clicking on the discuss link under each article will allow you to comment directly on that article. Members are encouraged to comment on our articles.
Please use appropriate language at all times and don't swear. Remember children can also be carers and also have access to the Members Discussion.
Upsetting or harassing any member will not be tolerated.
The moderators all work together and any decision made by a moderator will be upheld by all other moderators. Moderators are also subject to moderation by other moderators.
Try and keep your posts as positive as possible. The whole subject of carers and carers poverty can be very depressing to both the carers and their loved ones. As an example, if someone states that they are suffering with depression, replying "You should get over it, I did" doesn't help. Replying "I got over my depression by ....... which really helped me" is an excellent positive and helpful reply.
Privacy Information
The information we gather for membership is not shared with any other organisation and is not used for marketing, which means you will never get spam from us.
As part of your membership, we only gather very basic information about you, the most identifable of this is your email address, which is hidden from people you send a message to in order to protect your privacy. The only way another member will be able to get your email address is if you tell them in a message. We strongly advise against this for your protection.
Helping us to help you
On your membership profile, there are 5 pieces of information that are invaluable to the Carers Poverty Alliiance, all of which are optional as the information is viewable by other members. These pieces of information are as follows:
- Type of Member: A selection of types of carers, such as "Carer receiving Carers Allowance", "Student Carer" and many other options.
- Country: Which country you are in.
- County/State: Which county or state your are in.
- Name of MP: The name of your local MP and their party. This is very useful for us contacting them. MPs only need to respond to contact from someone in their own constituency, but having this information allows us to write to them on your behalf.
- Website: If you have a favourite website you think other members will find useful.
